Cambridge, Massachusetts - June 10, 2010 - Japan will be one of the first markets in the world to see a commercial LTE deployment while its telecom growth will be led by higher speed broadband connections over fiber and increased adoption of sophisticated mobile data services enabled by 4G networks, according to a new report from Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com).
Japan: Aggressive 4G Ramp-Up to Drive Telecom Revenue Growth is a precise profile of the country's telecommunications, media, and technology sectors based on proprietary data collected and analyzed by Pyramid. This 29-page report provides detailed competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services, and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies. Over the next five years, Pyramid expects the Japanese telecommunications services market to grow at a CAGR of 3.5 percent, reaching $171.9 billion by 2014, notes Tae-Hyung Kim, Analyst at Pyramid Research and author of this report. "This growth will be led by the migration to higher speed broadband connections over fiber and increased adoption of sophisticated mobile data services enabled by 4G networks," Kim says.
"Japan will be one of the first markets in the world to see a commercial LTE deployment as incumbent NTT DoCoMo plans to launch the service before the end of 2010," says Kim. Pyramid expects 4G, LTE in particular, to take off from 2013 as LTE handsets are introduced in large quantities. "Over the next three years, Japan will see significant capex, continuing a long trend of technological innovation," Kim adds. "Most of the investment will come from mobile operators as they not only build out their LTE networks, but also modernize their core networks to support an all-IP platform."
