Cambridge, MA, September 15, 2006—The UMA advantage lies in the fact that subscribers are provided with a single device with all the advantages of a fixed and a mobile phone says Pyramid Research in it’s newest Analyst Insight written by Senior Analyst, Nick Holland.

“For operators, this equates to lower churn and higher ARPUS,” comments Holland.

Pyramid believes that another advantage derived from UMA is lowering operators’ capital costs by moving traffic off cellular networks and onto lower-cost broadband networks.

“These savings can be then passed on to the subscriber, with MNOs offering unlimited calling in the home without overloading the network,” adds Holland.

According to the Analyst Insight, UMA offers MNOs a tool to compete.

“On the flipside, it will accelerate the commoditization of voice,” continues Holland. “Still, such commoditization was inevitable, and UMA may even provide some upside.”
